Doctors, dentists and proprietary pharmacists are legally bound to apply to the Danish Health and Medicines Authority for permission to establish a relationship with or run a pharmaceutical company, cf. section 3(2) of the Danish Pharmacy Act.
Likewise, pharmaceutical companies are obligated to notify the Danish Health and Medicines Authority of any doctors, dentists and proprietary pharmacists that they collaborate with.
The application and notification duty is intended to support the general impartiality of doctors, dentists and proprietary pharmacists.
At the same time it aims to ensure that patients can rely on persons prescribing or recommending medicine to be independent from any ulterior motives and to have no conflicting interests.
