The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the Danish Medicines Agency warn against the website shytobuy.dk, which under the slogan "buy online discretely" (in Danish, køb online i al fortrolighed), encourages internet users to purchase solutions to illnesses that, according to the website, are too embarrassing to consult a doctor with.
Among the most prominent illnesses are impotence, prostate problems and premature ejaculation.
Shytobuy.dk markets a number of products that are illegal and could be dangerous to the consumers. The products include both food supplements and unauthorised medicines.
They contain plant ingredients that may cause various undesired effects on the liver, the hormone system and the central nervous system.
The products and plant ingredients are:
VigRX TM For Men (Serenoa repens)
- Vig RX Plus TM (Tribulus terrestris og Serenoa repens)
- Viapro TM (Serenoa repens)
- Vazopren TM (Tribulus terrestris)
- Semenax TM (Tribulus terrestris)
- Prostacet TM (Serenoa repens)
- Testrogain TM (Tribulus terrestris og Serenoa repens)
- Grobust TM (Serenoa repens)
- CC Fabulous Breasts TM (Serenoa repens)
- V-RX TM (Cimicifuga racemosa – black cohosh)
- Provillus TM (Serenoa repens)
- Proto-col Trichologen TM (Serenoa repens)
Since 2009, the Danish Medicines Agency has analysed the products VigRX TM For Men and Viapro and found that they contained either the active substance sildenafil or a so-called sildenafil analogue - i.e. a substance which has the same effect and side effects as the active substance sildenafil. The content of the active substances was not indicated on the packages. Sildenafil is included in approved prescription-only medicines for the treatment of impotence. Treatment with medicines containing this substance should only be initiated upon consultation with a doctor.
The Danish Medicines Agency therefore recommends not to buy the products VigRX For Men and Viapro, because there may be a risk that they still contain active substances that are not listed on the packages.
The website is registered by a French internet company, but apparently based in Great Britain.
Be careful when you buy products on the internet
The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the Danish Medicines Agency generally advise consumers to be careful if they buy food supplements and medicines on the internet:
- Look for thorough information about a product if it is sold online, but not in general stores
- If you want to make sure that a product is covered by regulatory control, you can find information about registered food supplements on altomkost.dk, and about authorised medicines on produktresume.dk (both websites are in Danish only).
