In special circumstances, pharmacists can apply for reimbursement. The reimbursement is granted in the form of an exceptional reimbursement or a structural reimbursement.
Exceptional reimbursement is granted, for example, to pharmacies that are unable to carry out the necessary and desirable reconstruction, relocation etc. within the scope of their normal operation. In addition, two special compensation pools have been established in order to facilitate the execution of reimbursement for urban pharmacies.
Structural reimbursement is granted to pharmacies that are unable to maintain a reasonable income, for example due to a modest turnover and a complicated distribution structure with many over-the-counter outlets and pharmacy outlets.
The Minister for Health and Prevention grants the reimbursements. The expenses for the reimbursement scheme are covered by fees paid by pharmacies throughout Denmark.
