Statistics and analyses

The Danish Medicines Agency prepares statistics and analyses on the sale of medicines in Denmark.

The purpose is to monitor the sale and price development of medicines in Denmark, so strengthening the health authorities' management and planning of the pharmaceutical and pharmacy area.

Where are data sourced from?

The statistics and analyses are based on information from the Register of Medicinal Product Statistics of the Danish Medicines Agency, which contains data on the total sales of drugs in Denmark.

The information in the register is derived from Danish community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies and  the Danish State Serum Institute, which register any dispatch or delivery of medicines in Denmark.

Since 1 October 2001, new distributors selling over-the-counter medicines have also reported their sales to the register.
