Antipsychotic medicines have experienced an increase in sales of 7 % (DKK 15.6 million) from Q3 2010 to Q3 2011. This is shown by the Danish Medicines Agency's quarterly statistics on trends in the sale of pharmacy-only medicines.
In the same period, the quantity consumed rose by 2 % (corresponding to 0.1 million defined daily doses) due to an increase in the number of people who have redeemed a prescription for an antipsychotic.
The increased sales of antipsychotics are due to increased sales of new and more expensive antipsychotics, especially the products quetiapine, olanzapine and aripiprazole.
