Beware of websites and social medial posts misusing the Danish Medi-cines Agency logo

Falsified and illegal products are increasingly being promoted on social media and websites that have no authority whatsoever to sell medicines and medical devices. Consumers risk being deceived due to the misuse of the Danish Medicines Agency logo or that of other authorities.

The Danish Medicines Agency has noted a hike in illegal ads on websites and social media that misuse the agency’s logo to promote medicines and medical devices and related products such as food supplements, alternative medicines and cosmetic products. These ads frequently make false claims about the product’s effects and efficacy, and the agency’s logo is being misused to suggest that the product has been authorised or recommended by the Danish Medicines Agency. Several of the ads also used logos from other national and international authorities.

“The logos are used to make the websites and social media posts appear reliable with the purpose of misleading consumers. Consumers risk buying falsified and unauthorised products that could harm your health in the worst-case scenario. That’s why we are urging people to be cautious of these posts and telling them that the rules are quite clear in this area: No other than the Danish Medicines Agency may use the logo of the Danish Medicines Agency,” says Jeanne Majland, Director of Department.

So, consumers can be certain that the content is fake if a website or a social media ad has copied the logo of the Danish Medicines Agency to the ad or in some other way is claiming that a specific product has been recommended by the Danish Medicines Agency.

“Our best advice is not to buy anything or believe what these types of ads are saying. Because when the sender of the ad uses this form of falsified promotion, chances are that they are anything but a reliable distributor,” says Jeanne Majland.
