Denmark and EU part of an international vaccine alliance to ensure COVID-19 vaccines for low- and middle-income countries
Denmark, the other EU countries and the European Commission have come together to support the vaccine alliance COVAX whose aim is to ensure that low- and middle-income countries have access to vaccines.
Through a contribution of EUR 400 million, more than DKK 2 billion, in guarantees, Denmark, the other EU countries and the European Commission have come together to support the international vaccine alliance COVAX whose aim is to ensure that low- and middle-income countries have access to vaccines.
The EU contribution consists of EUR 230 million funded by a loan from the European Investment Bank, which is owned by the EU member states, and EUR 170 million from the EU budget.
The aim of the COVAX initiative is to make COVID-19 vaccines available to risk groups and healthcare professionals in low- and middle-income countries by the end of 2021.
COVAX was launched in April by the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission and France.
