HPV vaccination

Updated 04 March 2019

Vaccination against human papilloma virus (HPV) reduces the risk of getting cervical cancer and is included in the Danish childhood immunisation programme.

There are three vaccines: Cervarix®, Gardasil® and Gardasil9®. The one used in the Danish childhood immunisation programme has varied over the years with the 4-valent Gardasil® from January 2009 to February 2016; the Cervarix® vaccine from February 2016 to 1 November 2017; and the Gardasil®9 vaccine from 1 November 2017. The vaccine used in the programme is decided based on a tender.

The Danish Medicines Agency encourages doctors and citizens to continue to report suspected adverse reactions from HPV vaccination. You can report adverse reactions electronically on our website. To be able to monitor the safety of medicines in the best possible way, it is important that the information in the report is as complete as possible.
