The Pharmacovigilance Working Party Veterinary (PhVWP-V) was formed by the European Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use (CVMP) and supervises the pharmacovigilance etc. of veterinary medicinal products. The Pharmacovigilance Working Party Veterinary is the veterinary counterpart of the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee, PRAC, which is responsible for monitoring the safety of human medicines.

At its most recent meeting, the CVMP elected Lisbet Vesterager Borge chair for a period of three years. Lisbet Vesterager Borge, who is a veterinarian and who was previously on loan for two years from the Danish Medicines Agency to the European Medicines Agency, is looking forward to taking on her new responsibilities as chair: ”There is plenty of work to be done. First of all, we need to strengthen pharmacovigilance of veterinary medicinal products and the signal detection system. New guidelines and recommendations need to be developed and depending on the progress in the drafting of the new regulation on veterinary medicinal products, we will start making preparations for the implementation of the regulation,” says Lisbet Vesterager Borge, whose first meeting as a chair will be held on 24 and 25 January 2017.
