Reimbursable nutritional products
The Danish Medicines Agency authorises nutritional products eligible for reimbursement and updates the lists of reimbursable nutritional products on an ongoing basis. Only the products on these lists are eligible for reimbursement. It is not possible to apply for individual reimbursement for individual patient.
Standard products are tube feeding products or oral nutritional supplements (drinks etc.) used as supplements to the daily diet or as the sole source of nutrition. The products are termed standard products because they meet the needs of the majority of patients. They are divided into two categories, nutritionally complete and incomplete, depending on the contents of nutrients.
Special products are tube feeding products, drinks, powders etc. used as supplements to the daily diet or as the sole source of nutrition. The products are termed special products because they may have a special composition regarding e.g. the type of fat, protein or salt content. The products are often prepared for patients suffering from a specific disease or deficiency.
See our lists of reimbursable nutritional products for adults, children and infants. A procedure for substitution of the nutritional products is also available.
In accordance with section 159 of the Danish Health Act and guideline no. 115 of 8 December 2006 on reimbursement for nutritional products prescribed by a doctor (tube feeding products etc.) (in Danish), reimbursement is only granted to extensively hydrolysed infant formulas if the products are used for the treatment of children diagnosed with milk allergy, and not for the prevention of allergy. This means that a green prescription cannot be used in the prevention of allergy. In such cases, you can apply for reimbursement of the extra cost from the municipality in accordance with section 41 of the Danish Social Service Act (in Danish).
