Dose dispensing

Updated 01 August 2014

Dose dispensing means that a community pharmacy or hospital pharmacy places medicine in a dose container. The dose container can contain one or more doses of one or more medicinal products.

Dose dispensing is a service provided to:

  • individuals, institutions and companies that, in connection with patient treatment, rescue services etc., use medicine for treatment of patients,
  • specific (named) patients receiving treatment at a hospital or another institution included in section 3 of the Danish Hospital Act,
  • other specific (named) patients.

The Danish executive order on dose dispensing of medicinal products came into force on 5 February 2003. You can find the executive order via the box to the right (in Danish only).

In Denmark, pharmacies are responsible for dose dispensing of medicines. All pharmacies in Denmark provide dose dispensed medicines.
